A few years ago I walked into a business that looked fine from the outside. Busy team, jobs getting done, office manager was working hard. But the whole operation was running on paper and everyone had piles on their desk.
Within six hours I found $300,000.
Completed jobs that were never billed. Approved work that was never sent out. Parts installed and never accounted for in invoicing.
The team wasn't intentionally letting it slip. The issue was nobody had a clear view of what was open, what was done, and what was waiting on someone to act. Things fell through and nobody knew to catch them.
I think about that business a lot when owners tell me they need to bring in more revenue. Sometimes the revenue is already there. It's just not making it to the invoice.
Before you add another lead source or push harder on marketing, it is worth asking whether your current work is actually getting billed, tracked, and collected the way it should be.
That is exactly what a Business Audit looks at.
